Dot NAME Domain Name Registrations

Introduced in 2001, the .NAME extension is the only one intended for personal web pages only. These domains can consist of personal or fictional names, aliases and/or other labels people are known by. Initially, just 3rd-level registrations were permitted, so if you planned to secure john.doe.name, you were required to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration procedures were liberalized and second-level registrations were also permitted. Already purchased third-level domain names remained running.
